Ever feel like your brain is arguing with itself?

Logic vs. Emotion: Discover Why Your Brain Feels Split!

Hey there,

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, Why am I acting like two completely different people? Like one part of you is calm and logical, while the other is all emotional and impulsive? Turns out, there's a real reason for that!

In the latest episode of Shift with CJ, I had an amazing chat with Dr. Frederick Schiffer about something called dual brain psychology. Basically, your brain has two sides, and they each do their own thing. The left side handles all the mature, logical stuff—like making decisions and solving problems. The right side? That’s your emotional, impulsive side. It’s like having two different personalities sharing one brain!

Dr. Schiffer even talked about old studies where scientists disconnected the two sides of the brain—and people’s behavior completely changed. Wild, right?

But here’s where it gets even more interesting. Dr. Schiffer has developed a way to help people heal from trauma by figuring out which side of their brain is holding on to the pain. For example, he shared the story of a Vietnam veteran who relived flashbacks whenever his “emotional” side was triggered. By focusing therapy on that part of the brain, they were able to help him start letting go of those memories.

And get this—he’s also using light therapy to help people heal. Imagine just shining a light on your head and feeling better! It’s called photobiomodulation (fancy word, I know), and it helps recharge your brain, improve blood flow, and even calm inflammation. People struggling with addictions—like fentanyl—have cut their usage by 80% using this therapy. And it’s quick, with no side effects. Seriously, how cool is that?

We also talked about combining light and sound to boost your brainpower. Imagine a headset that can literally change your mood or mental state with flashing lights and music. Dr. Schiffer is already working on something like that. It’s like the future of therapy is here.

But don’t worry, it’s not all about high-tech stuff. He shared a super simple stress-relief trick involving an envelope. Sounds weird, but trust me—it works. You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out how!

One thing that really stuck with me during our chat was the importance of patience. Whether you’re trying to heal, learn something new, or just figure out life, progress takes time. And that’s okay. Sometimes, slowing down is how we actually move forward.

If you’re into understanding how your brain works or curious about new ways to improve your mental health, you’re going to love this episode.
