5 Powerful Life Lessons from Saahil Mehta on Shift with CJ

Discover how forgiveness, JOMO, and authenticity can transform your life.

Hey there,

Do you ever have those conversations where something just clicks, and you think, “Wow, I really needed this”? That’s how I felt talking to Saahil Mehta in the latest episode of Shift with CJ. We covered so much—everything from forgiveness to authenticity—and it left me thinking about how these lessons can make life lighter and more meaningful.

Here are five takeaways that really stood out to me:

Forgiveness isn’t for others—it’s for you.

How often do we hold onto grudges or replay past mistakes? Saahil shared a beautiful exercise: write a letter of forgiveness to yourself. It’s not about excusing anyone else—it’s about letting go of what’s weighing you down so you can move forward.

Here’s how to try it: Take 10 minutes today to write about something you’ve been holding onto. Maybe it’s forgiving yourself for a mistake or letting go of resentment toward someone else. It doesn’t need to be perfect—just write what feels right. When you’re done, notice how much lighter you feel.

Turn FOMO into JOMO.

We live in a world where it’s easy to feel the fear of missing out—on events, opportunities, or just keeping up with others. But Saahil flipped the script, talking about the joy of missing out (JOMO). It’s about choosing what matters to you and saying “no” to things that don’t align with your goals or values.

Start small: The next time you feel pulled into something out of obligation or guilt, ask yourself, “Does this add value to my life?” If not, it’s okay to let it go. Use that time for something meaningful to you, whether it’s resting, working on a passion project, or spending time with loved ones.

Pause before you react.

How many times have you said or done something in the heat of the moment that you regretted later? We’ve all been there. Saahil shared how creating even a small pause between what happens and how you respond can change everything.

The next time you feel yourself getting worked up, try this: Take a deep breath and count to five before saying or doing anything. That pause can help you react with intention rather than emotion—and it works wonders for your relationships and your peace of mind.

Small choices create big changes.

One of my favorite parts of our chat was talking about how small, consistent decisions can have a ripple effect on your life. Saahil used sleep as an example. Prioritizing good sleep can improve your energy, mood, and focus in ways you might not even realize.

Here’s a tip: Pick one small change this week, like setting a bedtime or putting your phone away an hour before bed. Stick with it for a few days and notice how it impacts your overall well-being. Sometimes, the smallest changes make the biggest difference.

Authenticity is your superpower.

“Don’t be afraid to be you.” That’s the advice Saahil said he’d give his younger self, and I couldn’t agree more. So often, we try to fit into molds that don’t feel right, but when we embrace who we truly are, life feels so much more aligned.

Ask yourself: Are there parts of your life where you’re not being authentic? It could be as simple as expressing your true thoughts or pursuing something you’ve been holding back on. The more you lean into your true self, the stronger your connections and confidence will become.

In this episode, we also talked about managing imposter syndrome, the power of positivity, and why working with a coach can be so transformative. Saahil shared how having someone to guide him helped him uncover blind spots and make meaningful progress.
